Capital City Flyers vs. the
KGb's.
Pick your side. When
asked about this week's
anticipated Cold War matchup
an unnamed KGb player coldly
stated, "We must break
them."
This will be the first GOTW
appearance for the Flyers,
who are coming off
back-to-back Sweet 16
appearances. With
respectable losses to the
#6, 9 and 26 teams, the
Flyers would like to avoid a
fourth loss, which might
cost them a first-round
tournament bye. The
KGb's looked daunting to
them through the first six
weeks as they jumped to a
5-1 record, but after a
23-22 nailbiting loss to Big
In Japan, a Flyer fan
exclaimed, "You see, they
aren't a machine, they're
just a bunch of men and
women!"
The KGb's are only in their
second season in the USHSL
as a late convert from the
Congressional League
(formerly Raising Arizona).
In that first season, they
dropped their first four as
they acclimated to the new
League, but rallied to sneak
into the tournament as a #47
seed and proceeded to upset
#18 Big Sticks, and only
fell to the Saints by six
runs.
They have taken that moment
into the 2011 season with an
8-2 start. A win this
week over the Flyers would
jump them into the Top 16
and in position to secure
that coveted first round bye
in the tournament.
Maybe you don't understand
what I'm talking about now,
but you will when it's over.
You will when it's over.
