A few short weeks ago, our
2010 Championship Game
participants were coming off
some losses, and shaking a
little rust off from the
offseason. But here we
are starting off the second
half, and we find both in
the Top 10 in the standings,
getting ready to make that
second half run to possibly
another title.
But the outcome of this
week's GOTW could have an
impact on whether they will
meet in the Championship
game again. A third
loss for the Sliders, with
still a rough schedule to go
would all but eliminate a
Top 4 Seed in the tournament
- making their tournament
road potentially much more
difficult. Only twice
has a team finished with
three losses and secured a
Top 4 seed. It has
never been done with 4
losses.
A loss for Texas Republic
would equal their total
number of losses over the
previous two seasons
combined, but would likely
not affect their seed much
with only two Top 20 games
left on their regular season
schedule.
More importantly for
Republic though is that
while a win won't erase last
season's loss - only payback
in the tournament will do
that - it would give them
some added lift the next
time these two teams meet -
perhaps in this season's
Championship Game.
