Sober - TX Republic Preview

Pop Quiz – which team has been to the most Elite 8’s and Sweet 16’s combined:  Dragon Slayers, Milwaukee’s Best, Big Lebowskis, or Moderately Sober.  I know, it’s obvious given the GOTW, but would you have guessed Moderately Sober before today?  Did you know that Sober has a better all-time regular season winning percentage than FDA, Vito Power, Milwaukee’s Best, and the Dragon Slayers?

Having already knocked off the Sliders and Dragon Slayers this year, and falling to Potomac Fever by only one run, Moderately Sober seems primed for a great 2011 campaign.  But like all successes, it will ultimately be measured by the tournament, where despite multiple Top 15 finishes, they have not returned to the Elite 8 since 2006. 

And speaking of tournament success, they will face Texas Republic on Thursday who is coming off back-to-back Championship Game appearances.  Though they would probably like to forget last year’s penultimate game as it ended early at the hands of the dominant Sliders. 

Republic is seeking to make it three straight championship appearances – something that have never been done, and win a 2^nd championship – also never been done.  They got off to their usual fast start this season, but were tripped up by the Cap City Flyers two weeks ago, only to right the ship last week in a 13-2 drubbing of DGS.  Republic will have to avoid overlooking Sober this week as a championship game rematch looms against the Sliders in just two weeks.
